How to Extend Cutting Fluid Service Life
How can cutting-fluid life be extended—chemical additives, adjusting the mixture or adding fresh fluid? If these are still your only methods, it may be time for a new approach.
Recent research shows that Plasma technology generates reactive radicals. Contact between these radicals and the water-soluble cutting fluid in a machine-tool tank can achieve a sterilization rate of up to 99%, slowing spoilage and the resulting odours, while also addressing waste-fluid treatment and operator-health concerns.
Plasma generation uses dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) technology. Discharge-generated reactive radicals sterilize microorganisms and break down organic matter. Applying them as fine bubbles enhances the effect.Plasma technology addresses the longstanding problem of deterioration in water-soluble cutting fluids used in machine tools, providing the best solution available to date.
Based on this technology, Korea’s A-RYUNG developed the Cutting Fluid Preservation System, PLASMA GENERATION SYSTEM. The system generates plasma safely over extended periods for disinfection, spoilage prevention and deodorization. It extends cutting-oil service life by 4–6 times, significantly reduces cutting-oil purchase and wastewater-treatment costs, and supports a healthy, comfortable and safe working environment.
