Water Washing in Fuel Engine Turbocharging Systems
Water Washing in Fuel Engine Turbocharging Systems
Water is used to wash turbochargers in fuel-oil and diesel engines on ships and at power plants. Keeping turbochargers clean improves fuel efficiency and reduces engine carbon emissions.
Hot water is injected into the exhaust side of the hot turbocharger. The resulting steam removes accumulated soot.
For fuel-oil engines, this method can improve fuel efficiency by up to2 per cent, with savings of tens of thousands of euros per year.

VA Smart flow meters provide robust, reliable measurement of wash-water flow. Their 4 mA transmitter output enables remote monitoring in marine and power-plant applications.
