How to Calculate Head Loss in Centrifugal Pump Piping
Method for calculating pipeline head loss.
Accurately calculating head loss, or pressure loss, in centrifugal-pump piping is complex. Actual piping losses are often greater than expected and must always be included in the design.
Head loss can be estimated using the Darcy equation, Moody chart, Colebrook equation or Blasius equation, although calculated values may differ from actual measurements.
Drawing on years of coolant-pump research, Weidoya offers an efficient, simple design for easy maintenance.
(See the table below)
When selecting a pump, add the total head loss obtained from the chart below to the static head to obtain the total head. Find its intersection with the pump performance curve to determine the actual discharge flow rate.
These values vary with oil type, viscosity and temperature, pipe interior roughness and shape, valve type and other factors.
