Plasma Sterilization for Large Water Tanks

Plasma Sterilization for Large Water Tanks

Pomfret and trout farms — a customized solution for a 35-tonne tank.

Inquiry

Our standard PLASMA sterilization equipment was developed for a 500 L tank. To meet a customer’s requirements for a 35-tonne pool, we provided a customized solution with measures to improve treatment performance.

1. Application plan and performance improvements

  1. Oxygen supply in place of air

  • Plan: replace the plasma generator’s air supply with high-purity oxygen.

  • Effect: increase reactive oxygen species (ROS) concentration to improve sterilization and oxidation capacity.

  1. Pump-driven circulation and mixing

  • Plan: use a seawater pump to distribute plasma gas evenly throughout the pool.

  • Effect: active substances spread quickly throughout the pool, providing treatment across the entire water volume.

  1. 4 eductor nozzles + 2 micro-bubblers

  • Plan: install mixing and micro-bubble injection components at the outlet.

  • Effect: improve gas dissolution and dissolved oxygen, strengthening sterilization while improving the breathing environment for fish.

  1. Higher-capacity equipment (APG-002 model)

  • Plan: replace the smaller model with dedicated higher-capacity equipment.

  • Effect: increase processing capacity to provide stable sterilization performance in a large pool.

  1. Applying Henry’s law: low temperature + 3 bar pressure

  • Plan: adjust water temperature and pressure to maximize the solubility of active substances.

  • Effect: extend the residence time of active substances in water and improve sustained sterilization.

2. Overall results

  • Stable, continuous sterilization in a 35-tonne pool.

  • Reduced pathogens in the pool, with the potential to improve fry survival.

  • Customized design to meet customer requirements and improve aquaculture operating efficiency.

Summary: the plasma sterilization solution can be extended from standard 500 L tanks to 35-tonne pools. This case illustrates customization for a customer’s operating environment.

■ Key improvements and effects of the customized solution

  1. Oxygen supply in place of air

  • Purpose: maximize plasma generation efficiency and increase reactive species (ROS and RNS) concentrations.

  • Effect: increase production of ozone, hydroxyl radicals (OH) and other active substances, improving sterilization speed and coverage against pathogens.

  1. Seawater pump circulation and mixing

  • Purpose: distribute plasma gas evenly throughout the water.

  • Effect: improve gas dissolution and reduce untreated zones for uniform sterilization.

  1. 4 eductor nozzles + 2 micro-bubblers

  • Purpose: produce micro-bubbles and strong mixing in the water.

  • Effect: micro-bubbles improve gas dissolution and reactivity; eductor nozzles strengthen turbulent mixing to distribute active substances evenly.

  1. Higher-capacity APG-002 model

  • Purpose: provide the treatment capacity required for a 35-tonne pool.

  • Effect: substantially increase capacity compared with the original 500 L model, providing stable sterilization in a large aquaculture environment.

  1. Optimizing temperature and pressure using Henry’s law: low temperature + 3 bar pressure

  • Purpose: maximize gas solubility through physical conditions.

  • Effect: lower temperature increases the solubility of oxygen and active substances; 3 bar pressure increases dissolved gas concentration and extends the residence time of sterilizing components for a longer-lasting effect.

※ Overall outcome

  1. Extend the application of the original 500 L equipment to provide a solution for a 35-tonne pool.

  2. Customer-specific optimization of oxygen supply, mixing, nozzles and bubblers, main-unit capacity, pressure and water temperature maximizes sterilization capacity, reduces aquatic animal mortality and improves pool hygiene management.

  3. Available as a customized model for aquaculture farms.
